AuSable Acres was established in 1963 by John Eaton, a lumber mill owner from Vermont with a vision for a community in the Adirondacks. He purchased a few thousand acres in the town of Jay with the sole idea to build a neighborhood catering to both vacationers and year-round residents. Under his direction roads were built, a man-made lake was planned and 900 home sites were established.
Today, there are more than 300 homes, Lake Eaton is a focal point of the community and old logging roads have been re-purposed into a private trail system. AuSable Acres continues to enjoy a reputation as one of the most beautiful and sought after communities in the Adirondack High Peaks region.
