As you undoubtedly know, Tropical Storm Irene caused flood damage, road and bridge washouts and ravaged many, many homes in AuSable Forks, Keene and Keene Valley. The river rose to unprecedented levels leaving many homeless. Recovery efforts are ongoing at the local, state and federal level. Essex County has been declared a federal disaster area. Fortunately, AuSable Acres was spared severe damage and many of the residents have been helping their neighbors as they clean up and begin rebuilding their lives. The good news is that there was no loss of life. Food and clothing has been pouring in and help with cleanup is continuing. The Town of Jay has set up a special account to put money for people in need. A committee will be formed with representatives from the affected areas to assess needs and disperse the money so it will be well spent. The AAPOA has made a $500 donation to this fund on behalf of our members. If anyone wishes to make a donation, please make your check payable to the “Town of Jay Irene Relief Fund”. Checks can be mailed to the Town of Jay, PO Box 730, AuSable Forks, NY 12912. It is impossible to overstate the need of the community and your generousity will be greatly appreciated.
